Therapis General Hospital participates in the free breast screening program “Fofi Gennimata.”
Those eligible for the breast cancer prevention program can book their appointment online or by phone at 210 729 1111.

Beneficiaries of the "Fofi Gennimata" breast screening program
All women who have an AMKA (Social Security Number) and are between the ages of 50 and 69 are eligible for the “Fofi Gennimata” free breast screening program. Exceptions are women who have already had a breast examination during the previous year or who have had breast cancer in the last five years. In addition, European guidelines recommend digital mammography for women aged 50-69 every two years.
Therefore, when a woman has been screened in the previous year, it is not recommended that she be screened again during the current year. However, if there are specific reasons to repeat the examination, she can do so through EOPYY, using the procedure currently in place.
Beneficiaries of the program who have an electronic prescription will receive their referral by text message or email. Beneficiaries who are not registered for electronic prescriptions can retrieve their referral with their AMKA (Social Security Number) in the EOPYY application from the “Action Control” field.
The National Pre-Symptomatic Screening Program (EPE) issues electronic referrals, which are valid for one year.

Digital Mammography
Digital mammography is the preventive examination of choice for breast cancer. Several years ago, it replaced analog mammography, which used older imaging technology.
In digital mammography, radiation exposure is minimal and in no way dangerous to health.
Digital mammography detects solid and cystic lesions as well as areas with suspicious changes.
According to current guidelines, healthy and asymptomatic women should have their first mammogram at age 35 (known as a baseline mammogram). Mammograms should be repeated every two years after age 40. After the age of 50, it should be repeated every year. Unless there is a family or personal history of breast cancer, in which case it should be done every year.
Also, for women who have a confirmed mutation in the BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes, which are associated with breast cancer, annual mammograms are recommended from the age of 30.
