Education / Specialty

  • Georgios Samelis graduated from the Medical School of the University of Athens in 1980.
  • He obtained the specialty of Internal Medicine in 1986.
  • He obtained the specialty of Medical Oncology in 1997.
  • He holds a Doctoral Thesis from the Medical School of the University of Athens since 1996.

Further Training

  • Basic research in drug sensitivity in cancer cell lines (Free University Amsterdam, 1993–1994).
  • Clinical training in Oncology (Gustave Roussy University Hospital, Paris, France, 1994–1995).
  • He trained in Medical Oncology for three years at the University Oncology Hospitals of the Free University of Amsterdam and Gustave Roussy in Paris.

  • He has contributed to the writing of more than 80 scientific books, both in Greek and international editions of global scientific impact.
  • He has participated in more than 300 presentations at Greek and international oncology conferences.
  • He has authored more than 250 scientific papers in international and Greek medical journals.
  • He has more than 300 publications in international medical journals, with 905 citations to date and an h-index of 13.

Distinctions / Awards

In 2001, he was awarded by the Academy of Athens as a member of the Hellenic Cooperative Oncology Group (HeCOG) for the group’s contribution to cancer research and the fight against cancer.

  • He has attended more than 300 educational seminars, both in Greece and internationally.
  • He has been an active member of more than 15 Greek and international scientific societies, including ASCO (American Society of Clinical Oncology), AACR (American Association for Cancer Research), ESMO (European Society for Medical Oncology), MASCC, EORTC (European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer), NDDO, HeCOG, the Hellenic Society of Medical Oncology, the Hellenic Breast Society, and others.
  • He has participated in more than 25 clinical studies (4 pan-European and 1 global, currently ongoing).
