Prostate cancer is a type of cancer that develops in the prostate gland of the male reproductive system.
It tends to occur in 1 in 15 men over the age of 40.
It is the most common cancer in men and the second leading cause of cancer death.
However, early diagnosis is possible, provided that every man is aware of it. This is because the condition does not cause any symptoms in its early stages, when the disease is treatable
If prostate cancer is suspected, a biopsy is performed:
Needle biopsy under transrectal ultrasound guidance.
Transperineal fusion prostate biopsy (targeted prostate adenoma sampling)
At Therapis General Hospital, we perform fusion prostate biopsy, which utilizes information from multiparametric magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). It allows for targeted biopsy of suspicious lesions by fusing MRI slices with real-time ultrasound images. This method is superior to the classic randomised method because it is highly accurate, resulting in a much lower probability of false negative results, is painless and has much lower infection rates.
Treatment
- Active surveillance – Monitoring.
- Surgery (radical prostatectomy). Therapis General Hospital performs the most modern method of treating prostate cancer (minimally invasive).
- Laparoscopic radical prostatectomy requires only one day of hospitalization and offers excellent oncological results, preservation of urinary continence and erectile function, allowing patients to return to their daily activities immediately.
- Radiotherapy (for patients who cannot undergo surgery).
